THE HOBBIT

BY

J.R.R. Tolkien

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit."

I remember my mother reading The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books to me as a child, but I had never read them on my own.  The stories have stuck with me throughout the years, however, and there has always been a warm spot in my heart at just the mention of the name Bilbo Baggins.  So naturally, it stands to reason that I would go back and read The Hobbit.  I am very glad that I did.  For those of you who have not read this book, run out and get a copy.  You need to, for your children, neices, nephews, cousins, and the child in yourself!

This is the story of Bilbo Baggins.  Bilbo is an ordinary, respected Hobbit, living out his life in his home, a cozy hole under The Hill.  Bilbo was respected because he never did anything out of the ordinary, never went on any adventures or any such rubbish.  One day, however, after a visit from the great wizzard Gandalf, that was all about to change.  Bilbo finds himself plunged into the greatest adventure any hobbit had ever experienced;  an adventure full of dwarves, elves, goblins, dragons, and much more.

This is a heartwarming, entertaining tale for children of all ages.
