WELCOME TO THE 2010 CHILLS AND SPILLS READ AND RELEASE CHALLENGE!!!

PARTICIPANTS LIST

Here are the rules:

This is a challenge to read and release books of a darker nature. Horror, thrillers, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, or other genres. If it fits the theme (or the title fits into the theme) it's game. Books must be read AND released in the appropriate month. Each month there will be a specified theme. You can read books that either have to do with the theme itself or simply have something related to the theme in the title.

As an added bonus (and by request), in this year’s challenge, if you have read and released at least one book for a particular month’s theme, you may then wild release other books for the theme which you may not have read.

(click on any month to view the list of double-pointers)

January- End Of The World Theme (beginning of a new year, why not
read an end of the world book?)
February- Zombies (observation of George A. Romero's Feb. 4 birthday)
March – Woodland Creatures, legends, myths, and the like (St. Patrick’s Day – leprechauns, goblins, werewolves, wendigo, etc)
April – Gaia’s revenge: animals, nature (Earth Day, Arbor Day)
May- Witches (observation of May Day)
June- Fire theme or title (summer is here, which for many means
the beginning of wildfire season)
July – Water/vacation (any theme or title relating to water and vacations)
August- Psychopaths/cannibalism (observation of serial killer Ed
Gein's Aug. 27, 1906 birthday)
September- Ghosts/demons/sprits (observation of Taiwan's National Ghost Month)
October- Halloween free-for-all, any theme will do!
November- Vampires (observation of Bram Stoker's Nov. 8, 1847 birthday)
December- Monsters/aliens (observation of Ozzy Osbourne's Dec 3 birthday)

Points will be awarded for books read and released:

1 point awarded for books read and set free in a controlled release
2 points awarded for book read and released in the wild
1 point awarded for books released but not read (you must read and release at least one each month to be able to qualify)

Controlled Releases – Mailing to a friend, mailing to someone on a book trading site such as paperbackswap, bookmooch, etc, taking to meetups (unless it is unclaimed by others and you leave the book at the location), bookrings, bookrays, RABCKs

Wild Releases – OBCZs, leaving at the location of a meetup (if no other bookcrosser claims during the meeting), general “wild releases” such as park benches, sidewalks, storefronts, coffeeshops, etc.

DOUBLE points will be awarded for reading and releasing any book off of the recommendations list (to be posted soon). This means 2 points for controlled and 4 points for wild releases. Also, it means 2 points for a release not read (see above for qualification)
Note: you MUST both read AND release at least one book to be awarded points. Also, you must post in the release thread, with the book title, AND a link to the book’s journal.

Random prize draws will take place throughout the year for those who participate monthly. And in January 2011, I will be doing a random draw for 3 top prizes! In addition to that, everybody who participates and releases at least one book for each month may receive something extra special in January.
